09/02/2006 - OUR HORSES NEED HELP !!! After a month of struggles, disappointments, worries and emotional roller-coaster rides at LAZY HORSE RANCH, we need to ask you for help once again........ Our horses are in desperate need of permanent homes, foster-homes, sponsors/donors (to cover extensive medical bills and outrageous hay prices) and reduced or free transportation. If you can help, PLEASE do so - we can't go on without your help !!!!!!! We have horses for adoption in SD, CA, OH, MA, GA, MN and AB-Canada. Several of these horses were/are in need of extensive medical treatment, and we need sponsors/donors to help pay those bills, so we can keep their adoption fees reasonable and increase their chances of getting adopted. We also need financial help with our feed bills - hay prices are outrageously high here in SD due to extreme drought conditions, and we currently can't afford to buy all the hay that will be needed for the winter. Some of these horses would have already been adopted if transportation costs weren't so outrageously high right now.... If you can offer free or reduced transportation rates for ANY of these horses, PLEASE contact us with your offer and your scheduled route ASAP - any help with their transportation is most important and would be a giant step towards their adoption. And last but not least - some of the horses currently in foster homes will have to be moved if not adopted soon. The foster homes in CA and GA were only short-term solutions, and now we will have to move them once again if they can't find a home.... If you live in or near CA or GA, and are willing and able to pick-up and foster 1-2 horses, PLEASE let us know right away. We are only looking for foster parents that are willing to cover the costs for their transport and all the care. The listed adoption fees are currently negotiable and all REASONABLE offers will be considered. And, the very strict adoption agreement might be negotiable for some horses as well - please ask !! Some of these horses have been saved from going to auction/slaughter/feedlots, some are PMUs directly from the farms, and others are from similar unfortunate situations. All of them are looking for a permanent loving home, and are currently located in South Dakota unless otherwise noted.
Adoptions are possible across the U.S., and very reasonably priced transportation can be arranged to most States.
For each horse, an adoption questionnaire, a written adoption agreement and deposit are required. Adoptions do NOT work on a first-come / first-serve basis - applications have to be approved first. The adoption application is free - no fees or any strings attached, and it's NOT considered a commitment. It just makes it a lot easier to "interview" people and keep all the information on file.
The adoption fee for each horse varies, depending on actual cost and expenses involved. The fees are being kept as low as possible, but please consider that a lot of $$ and time has already been invested in each horse: Besides the initial purchase-price and transportation fees to SD, the adoption fees also include Vet-exams, vaccinations, worming and castration. Most of the horses have also been trimmed, some are micro-chipped and a few can even be registered.
